Pettigo, Lough Derg- Basilica of St. Patrick’s Purgatory- Harry Clarke (1889 to 1931) was undoubtedly Ireland’s greatest stained glass artist. Internationally the name of Harry Clarke is synonymous with quality craftsmanship and imaginative genius in his stained glass work.

Matthias is depicted holding the thirteenth station (Duffy: 2002). The inner medallion shows Jesus’ body being laid in the tomb. A quiet sadness settles over the group that includes Mary, Mary Magdalene, Saint John and Simon.
